Kriter II was in the South Atlantic, midway between Uruguay and South-West Africa. The report placed her 180 miles ahead of the 1869 record « holder. Patriach, although a few degrees further west. About 750 miles to the east of Patriach was the British joint services entry, Great Britain IT, reported to be in some difficulty. She reported she was close hauled and making steady progress despite a damaged mainsail. The crew was working feverishly to repair the sail and it was hoped it would be hoisted again within 24 hours.
