Jensen company now in trouble

Appointment of a receiver has been requested by the board of Britain’s Jensen Motors, Ltd, but the company has assured Jensen owners that parts and service operations will continue. .

The board has given four reasons for the company’s problems. They are the state of the British economy, inflation, labour troubles, and the high costs the company has had to meet in order to comply with United States safety and pollution regulations. The last straw was apparently a delay of six months in starting production of the new Jensen G.T. version of the four-cylinder Jensen-Healey sports-car. The company’s chairman (Mr K. Qvale) said that the company had full order books and no unsold cars, but that it had run out of money.

The Bank of America has appointed a receiver, who has been quoted as saying that he will look closely at the possibility of keeping the company going. Sales of the company’s 7-litre Interceptor model have been hit hard by the fuel situation, and sales of the Jensen-Healey have never completly come up to expectations.
