Windvale will race in blinkers
Windvale will be raced | in blinkers in the Grandstand Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at Wingatui on Saturday.
When he raced without them last week Windvale gave his rider, Kevin Morton, a hard time because of his tendency to shift ground, and the South Canterbury grey was narrowly beaten by Dandyman. Inspector Fix, an acceptor for the Blossom Maiden Stakes at Wingatui, will also be tried in blinkers. He is a four-year-old from Invercargill, a stablemate of Foreign Aid. the hurdles winner on the first day of l the Otago meeting. DOWLING’S CHOICE The Wingatui trainer, John Dowling, will saddle two runners in the McLean Stakes, the first South Island two-year-old race of the season on Saturday. He has selected Bell Flight as his mount, and the ride ion Barkley Boy will go to ithe apprentice, L. Beckett. Barkley Boy won a division of the two-year-old parj ade at Wingatui last Satur- ! day. Bell Flight did not appear
in the Wingatui parade, but has won two sprints from the starting gate, one of them at Orari on Geraldine Cup day. Bell Flight is raced by a syndicate of Southlanders, one of whom is the former All Black. Mr Kevin Laidlaw. Bell Flight belongs to the famous Francolin family, whose influence throughout New Zealand has been marked. She is by Bellborough from Winsome Flight b\ Agricola from Loya! Flight bv Llanstephan from the Nizami mare Super Flight, a highly successful daughter of Rancolin.
