Aust. market continues to improve
Share prices put on another strong performance on Australian stock exchanges yesterday, with widespread gains in almost all sectors of the market. Under sustained buying, and renewed investor confidence, Sydney all ordinaries share price index looked set to touch the 400 mark shortly, traders said. The unflagging interest in coal issues, in the wake of the crude oil price rise announced by 0.P.E.C., helped A. rise 8c at 148 c. Utah, Oakbridge and Coal and Ah lied were firm, while Gollin rose another, couple of cents before settling at 53c, a little easier. Robe River,# Bougainville, B. South, C.R.A., and Queensland Mines made sharp gains, while pancontinental gained 30c to 560 c, more than making up for the losses of the past two sessions.
North B.H. was at its best level for the year, at 144 c but Consolidated Gold and Emperor were cheaper. Woodside-Burman, Oil Search and Ocean Resources were eagerly sought. Wood-side-Burmah touched 100 c after a 4c rise. B.H.P. was marked down to 712 c in what traders described as a technical adjustment. SYDNEY Salas, Industrial.—AmetH, 154; Ampol.
