The Lyttelton Harbour Board has received support from a cross-section of the Canterbury business and farming communities for the phasing out of ChristchurchLyttelton Road Tunnel tolls by 1977. Nine letters of support and the board’s representations will be sent to the Minister of Health and memIber of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr McGuigan), to Mr C.A. McLachlan, the Opposition spokesman on transport and the member for Rakaia, and to other M.P.s. They will be asked to give their views on the tolls before the General Election.

The board chairman (Mr J. Brand) said the Labour Party had originally said the tolls would be phased out by 1977, but nothing specific had been worked out since then.
