Young readers
There is a sad story behind the publication of “SAMUEL” bv Sue Maidment. Sue died in August, 1973, at the age of 14 after a long and painful struggle with a kidney disease. The day she went into hospital for the last time she finished writing this charming story of six cats who turn an empty house into a kittenage for stray kittens. She wrote and delightfully illustrated her book for children aged eight to 11 years. Her mother approached Spike Milligan for help in getting “Samuel” published. His foreword says that all royalties from the book will go to the St. Mary’s Hospital Renal Research Fund. “Samuel” is published by M. and J. Hobbs in association with Michael Joseph; the price is $5.50.
