CORSO wants basic changes
CORSO has introduced its campaign to inform New Zealanders about the causes of world poverty not because , development projects have failed, but because aid alone is insufficient to close the gap between rich and poor, says the Christchurch organiser (Mr R. Consedine).
It was quite clear to CORSO that fundamental changes must take place in tho rich countries if the poor were to receive a just share of the world’s resources, he said yesterday. CORSO believed strongly that the sharing of resource's
tftrough aid programme was an important part of this process.
It had earlier been announced that CORSO’s campaign to inform New Zealanders of the causes of world poverty had advanced a step further with the publication of a series of magazines on the subject. The $20,000 spent on the publications in New Zealand was a national budget, said Mr Consedine. All booklets published were sold with sufficient mark-up to cover all costs. Only leaflets were free. It was inevitable that CORSO’s programme would be criticised by those who had vested interest in continued exploitation, he said.
