'Exorcism isolated’

A Samoan woman’s exorcism, which figured in evidence at an inquest in Wellington this week, was an isolated case, according to Porirua’s Pacific Islanders’ Presbyterian Minister, the Rev S. Masina. He said in an interview today that he had not heard of such a case for several years, although he had heard rumours of them.

“But this was a real case which involved someone who had been neglected,” he said. “There was medical treatment available, but it was not sought. I am very sorry about it, and upset, as I fee) the need for more medical treatment was overlooked.” The Coroner’s Court fdund that Punaoupu Im Fuata, aged 24, a housewife, of Melrose, Porirua, had died on June 20 of acute tracheobronchitis with septicaemia.
