Australian markets end on strong note
Australian stock exchanges continued Thursday’s strong performance, to end the week on a firm note.
Energy issues were the principal performers, with Utah rising 14c to a new peak of 870 c, and Thiess 10c to 265 c on the sharply higher profit result. M.I.M. and Hamersley were both at their highest levels for the year along with Peko-Wallsend which was just short of 400 c. Pancontinental was unchanged on Thursday’s Sydney price, but rose 40c on Wednesday’s Melbourne level of 540 c.
Qld Mines and Kathleen rose 7c each to 105 c.
Among the industrial shares, B.H.P. was down 4c at 720 c, while E.Z. Industries, C.8.A., Aust. Guarantee, C.A.G.A., Jennings, and Myers recorded some large gains.
