(X Z.P A Reuter—Copyright) SANTIAGO. Sept. 26.
Chile’s Right-wing military Government is trying to trace the author of a poem, published in a Santiago newspaper, which applauded the armed forces’ severe action against Marxists. But not to praise them: the first letters of each line, read vertically, carried an insulting message.
The Under-Secretary to the Ministry of the Interior (Commander Enrique Montero) says that the evening newspaper, “La Segunda” published in good faith a poem signed by “A. Vergara.”
The poem, “Patriotic September Song,” praised the military coup d’etat of September, 1973, that overthrew President Salvador Allende, but the first letter of each line, taken together, read: “Assassins and military tyrants and reactionary idiots.”
