( • the human spirit, etc., etc. Leaflet found in mailbox. j I dreamed of the Values Man. Sir, One of those thoughtful Guys — Haranguing the Crowd from a styrofoam Cloud, ; With polythene Stars in his Eyes. Environment was his Theme. Sir 1 , And the Folly of all our Ways — A Lake and a Stream reflected the Gleam , Of his unpolluted Gaze. He spoke of the Value of Nature. Sir, In Scorn of material Things — [ And at every Word he soared like a Bird On bright duralumin Wings. 1 h He sang of the Human Spirit, Sir, , The Evils of Technology — Men and Machines, and beautiful Scenes, And the Science of Ecology: ' Of Personal Fulfilment, Sir, Of a Life less geared to Gain — 11 Of Community Sense, and the sad Expense Of Economic Strain. ’ He dwelt on the Needs of People, Sir, Whatever, wherever They are — A House at the Beach, in easy Reach' 1 A Pool, and a Second Car? I The Economy was a Monster, Sir, 1 Devouring Me and You — j Let Values bake the spiritual Cake. We shall eat — and have It, too. i 1 Hang-gliding on his Words. Sir. I dreamed we were All afloat — ] And then I awoke to the Last he spoke. j Something about my Vote! d
