Nemery closes university

KHARTOUM, September 9. President Nemery has closed Khartoum University, which, he says, was harbouring fugitive officers and soldiers from the abortive coup d’etat last Friday. Addressing a rally to mark the failure of the attempted coup, President Nemery blamed the plot on Rightwing groups, and accused Libya of sheltering forces opposed to Sudan. The President said that the plot was the brainchild of the National Front, a merger of the outlawed UltraConservative Moslem Brotherhood and the former Umma Party. Pamphlets issued by the Front were found, together with arms, in the university, which, he said, was used by other subversive elements.
