Leicestershire, led by Ray’ Illingworth, the 43-year-old former England captain, beat Middlesex by eight wickets and almost clinched the English county championship for the first time in its history. It took a maximum 18 points which puts it 17 points clear of Yorkshire in second place, each with one game still to play. Leicestershire’s remaining, match is against Derbyshire at; Chesterfield and Yorkshire winds up its campaign at the same time with a clash against Essex at Middlesbrough.
Hampshire still has a remote chance of the title.
