Marchers refuse meeting
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Wellington representatives of Te Roopu Matakite today denied reports that their organisation would meet the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Rata) tomorrow. to discuss their organisation’s Maori land protest march from Te Hapua to Wellington.
“No-one from our organisation will be meeting him or the Prime Minister or anybodv else.” a spokesman, Mrs T. Harawora, said. “We have tried to contact Mr Rata all week-end to tell him.’! She said that Mr Rata wanted to meet the group again. He spent two days talking to it last week to persuade it to drop their march plans. “We will not,” she said.
