Letter Box
For how much longer is Canterbury’s once good name for sportsmanship to be defiled by the viciousness and brutality displayed by our senior Rugby team? I ■ felt ashamed on Saturday to witness these' so called ■sportsmen” stoop to tactics and actions which made one think one was watching a team of thugs. What a terrible example this was to the many fine young boys who had preceded them. Even the captain does not seem to recognise the responsibility he has to set a good example to his men and to these young players. Another senior member is so “over the hill” that he makes a fool of himself and sadly vents all his frustration on his opponents by kicking any who are on the ground and cannot defend themselves. Surely it is time the union stood up to the coaches and told them to clean this team up. It’s high time that something was done before more damage to Canterbury’s already low rating on the sportsmanship ladder is done. FORMER RUGBY SUPPORTER
