A blow to Shield hope
(N.Z Press Association AUCKLAND. Torrential rain has upset Wellington’s Ranfurly Shield preparations and chances. Eden Park was closed on Thursday and yesterday. The ground is saturated and it was considered unwise to risk cutting it up with the shield match only 24 hours away. So Wellington trained on Cornwall Park on Thursday and had its final work-out at the Te Papa Rugby Club’s ground in South Auckland. The back-line strength that Wellington possesses from the All Black halfback, lan Stevens, through to Brian Cederwall at fullback, will be nullified by the conditions which will favour Auckland more.
