Guilty on 78 charges
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 5. After a retirement of nine hours and three-quarters, the jury in the trial of Mrs Lila Pepe Beere tonight found her guilty on 78 charges of theft by failing to account and theft as a servant, totalling $39,584, but could not reach agreement on a charge of arson. The two weeks trial was before Mr Justice Chilwell in the Auckland Supreme Court. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr R. R. Ladd,, sought a new trial on the arson charge. Mr K. Ryan represented Mrs Beere, who nieaded not guilty to the 79 charges. Mrs Beere was remanded for sentence. An apnlication for bail was refused.
