Easy method
The dot pattern method is very easy — the only special tools required are the adjustable rule, and several plastic curves.
The sewer works from a miniature pattern (see picture) and needs only two
body measurements as a guide — the bust, and hip. Any garment which is being made to fit above the waist means an adjustment to the rule to the bust measurement — say 87cm. Any garment which is being made to fit below the waist means an adjustment to the hip measurement — say 90cm. The pattern is then placed on plain paper which becomes the enlarged (life-size) pattern,' and the end of the rule is placed in a marked cross in the miniature pattern. The sewer then works round the miniature pattern stopping at every radiating line, and continuing it out on to the plain paper to the centimetre distance marked on the miniature pattern. A dot is placed at the required centimetre distance. This finished, the dots are joined using the plastic curves and a rule, and the pattern; is ready for use. Darts are allowed for, and are drawn in for use if needed. Facings are also very simply provided for. Adjustments to waistlines of garments, and the lengths of trousers are especially built into the patterns so that the line of the garment is not spoiled if the adjustments need to be made. There is no danger that a pattern will ever be too short, and they can be expanded to OS sizes ranging from 32 to 59in busts in adult sizes. Children’s sizes catered for anything under 32in. The Christchurch agent for Dot patterns is Mr Peter Williams, who at present is seeking authority to change his company name to something morel appropriate to the nature! of his business. Although he is operating! now under the names 1 “Freight Consultants South Island Ltd,” he should within two weeks be avail-! able under the company name Design Marketing. He is in constant demand as a demonstrator of the dot pattern system all round Canterbury, where his main promotion is centred at present. Demand has been so great in fact that he has employed six staff to cope with appointments and sales service.
