Send-up of Holmes

Sherlock Holmes may never seem the same after TV2’s screening on Sunday night of a “Comedy Playhouse” episode entitled “Elementary My Dear Watson.” John Cleese, of Frost and Monty Python fame, is the Victorian detective and his assistant Dr Watson is William Rushton.

The time is 1973. Holmes and Watson are alive and well at 2218 Baker Street. A letter sends them hurrying to Dartmoor, but they are intercepted bv Scotland Yard, and become involved m solving the case of five dead solicitors.

Meanwhile on the moor Cynthia Bellingham-Datchett shivers and wonders whether Holmes and Watson will reach her in time.

But the two investigators have a number of questions to answer. Among them: How does Fu Manchu fit in? Who will win the next Eurovision song contest? What is the curse of the BellinghamDatchetts? This 30-minute B B.C. comedy won high praise from television critics in England.
