Begg (Awarua), at the convention of the Institute of Agricultural Science in Wellington. He called for “profitaoil-j ity,” not “productivity,” ini farming, because the second would follow the first while the first would not necessarily follow the second, and said a special taxation system for farmers would help them achieve profitability.” But the research fellow in] agricultural policy at Lincoln College (Mr J. G. Pryde) said farmers were not big taxpayers now, and contributed only ss£lm of a total tax take of $2300m. ] “Their problem is an income problem, not a tax-: ation problem, and there: would not be enough money: in Such a scheme for farm-! ers to make it worth any-! one’s while,” he said.
