Master Dean in sound trial at Addington

Master Dean showed his true ability when he was successful at the Addington trials \esterday. Even though the time was not particularly fast, he won with a lot in hand, a feature of his run being the safe beginning he made.

Master Dean was solidly supported in his two races at the national meeting, but made slow beginnings and was never a possibility. He is to race next at the A. E. Laing Handicap at the New Brighton meeting on Saturday week and could make amends.

Master Dean got away quite well yesterdaj and he was soon handily placed He improved to take the lead with 400 m left and came on to win nicely by a length and a half after pacing the 2bCom in •3:29.9. the las' SOOm in 1:3.6. and the final quarter in 29 8 Eclipse, which is to make a fresh start either at the New Brighton meeting or af Hutt Park on September 10. was the only runner to get near Master Dean He ran on solidly without being pushed to finish second and ooks in great order to start another campaign. Bess Hanover, handy al! the way. did well for one in her class to finish third eight lengths away. There was a length to Junior Armbro. which was followed by Spry Guy. Facetious and Royal Sceptre. truant Direct and Brigadier Averil won the heats of the event for three-year-olds. The pace was not very strong in either of them.

Truant Direct returning 2:46 for the 2000 m, with Brigadier Averil recording 2:48.4. Truant Direct shaded Mandy Seth. Tarport Toby, which had plenty in reserve, and Wee Win. with Bachelor Bill, disappointed for a run in the straight, a fair fifth. Bachelor Bill could go well in his race at Washdyke on Saturday. Brigadier Averil won easily from Royal Abbe and Cedar Valley , with Glentara making ground for fourth after being slow early. Ko-, tare Lyric and Curraghmore headed the remainder. Trevino showed his fitnessfor the First Grantlea Handi-; cap at Washdyke when he; won the race for Co and Cl pacers. After being handily! placed all the way. he came on to win with plenty in i hand by two lengths from; Panther Lopez, which pulled hard in the trailing position until the turn Local Routine made up’ ground for third, shading Eblouir. which did well to

finish so close after being second last with 1200 m left., Be Wise was pacing easily; in fifth place, ahead of Charlotte Rose and There and Back. Trevino paced the 2600 m in. 3:33.8. the last 800 m in 1:1.2, and the final quarter in 30. He has not raced since last November because of injury. However, he has come to hand quickly for Jack Smolensk! and should not be long winning. Be Wise will be a popular fancy in the Second Ashbury Handicap even though she has drawn unfavourably. SPRINTED HOME Quick Pick made .most of; the pace and gained a clearcut win in a race for slowclass trotters. He set a slack pace and sprinted his last 800 m in 1:2.2, with the final 400 m in 31. Quick Pick won handily; by two lengths from Honest Moon, which did well to finish so close after an early break. Sir Rodney was right up third, shading Timmi, which was not asked for an effort in the straight. Live Twice, too, was close by and! was doing her work com-i fortably at the line. With!
