VIEWERS’ VIEWS
DAVE ALLEN
I read with interest the review of "The Dave Allen Show” on Saturday and, in the main, found the commentary fairly factual. It is true that some people feel that Allen is irreverent, disrespectful and could well forgo the broadcasting tipple. I howfever, count myself among those who find Allen really good entertainment and extremely humorous. And I say this as a life-long resident, of Northern Ireland until 10 months ago. The series of Dave Allen shows currently
screening in New Zealand, was seen in Northern Ireland some two years ago and. as far as I can judge, most of my then-com-partriots thoroughly enjoyed them. As for religion being a stumbling-block for Allen’s type of humour, this simply is not the case, and, I feel, here the articel rather contradicts itself. I quote: “He does not tilt at the basics, such as faith, belief or God.” Perhaps his Holiness alone might be upset to see a member of his fold apparently gone astrav. — W. K. McCULLY.
