Auckland case ‘special’
' (N.Z* Press Association) NELSON. Aug. 27. The Minister of Health (Mr McGuigan) denied in Nelson today that the Auckland Hos-i I pita! Board’s successful request for an extra slm had 'opened the door for other (boards. The Nelson Hospital Board Isaid in a statement yesterday that it regarded Auck-i land’s claim for extra assist-1 ance to be a test case, as the' need for financial help was: universal. Mr McGuigan said he had; seen the Auckland claim as; a special case which was! [judged on its merits. “This is how every application for extra funds will be treated — on the needs of Ithe board and the area,” he isaid. 1 “It must be pointed out that the Auckland board was' able to show conclusively that it had been at a disadvantage over a number of I years because of its failure to uplift past grants towards the teaching activities asso- J ciated with the medical school through to involvement in the geriatric field,.. ’ “The boards was able* to clearly show what the combined figures amounted to slm, and so the claim was substantiated,” Mr McGuigan said.
