Situation: The anticyclone north of the North Island is moving east and a narrow ridge of high pressure extends south. A complex depression with centres near Tasmania and the mid-Tasman Sea is moving east. An associated band of cloud and rain will reach the west of both islands this morning, and be followed by showery westerlies over the North Island. Forecast: Marlborough, Nelson: freshening northerly winds;
cloudy skies; rain developing; probably some improvement late in the day around Tasman Bay; moderate temperatures. Buller, Westland: scattered showers and northerlies freshening; at first occasional rain developing this morning; moderate temperatures. Canterbury: north or northeasterlies freshening, with occasional rain in the high country but little if any rain further east; moderate temperatures. Outlook: unsettled.
