‘No apology’ for price
CVZ Press Association > PORIRUA. The Minister of Electricity (Mr Bailey) said that he had no apology for the fact that electricity charges had been frozen, and he said a review of tariffs would come after the Labour Government was re-elected. At the opening of the Parumoana Street western area electricity depot, Mr Bailey said if electricity charges had not been frozen consumer costs would have risen to the same extent as New Zealand’s overseas fuel bill. "The Government has, in effect, and with the co-opera-tion of supply authorities, achieved the impossible. It has held consumer energy prices throughout a period of international inflation.” said Mr Bailey.
