Hooker keeps record intact

The group net profit of Hooker Corporation, Limited, investment company, rose 11.8 per cent to $A5.4m in the year to June 30, creating a profit record for the eighth successive year. Total dividend distribution is unchanged at 7.5 c a share with a final dividend of 3.75 c. The result was after providing, 8.6 per cent less for taxation at s4m and slm for depreciation, a rise of 7.7 per cent. The directors reported that in addition to the group net profit, the company earned an extraordinary profit of $391,000 from sale of fixed assets and realised currency surpluses. Joint ventures with financial partners in property in all its forms, was the major profit contributor, accounting for 36.8 per cent of profit at sl.9m a rise of 79 per cent.
Pastoral and hotel activities reported losses for the year. The pastoral division loss was $618,000 after a profit of $258,000 last year, and the hotel division loss rose from $162,000 to $394,000. Besser profit up The group net profit of Besser (Queensland), Ltd, concrete block maker, rose 26.9 per cent to $Au5t825,464 in the year to June 30 despite a 9.5 per cent fall in sales. The profit included a net surplus of $107,622 on the disposal of capital assets. The dividend has been held at a steady 15 per cent.
