Notification that five measures, including the Christchurch City Council Forestry Empowering Bill, had received the Royal Assent was received.
Announcing that it was unlikely that the Speaker (Mr Whitehead) would return to his duties in less than six to eight weeks, the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) confirmed Mr J. L. Hunt as acting Speaker. Mr R. M. Barclay as Acting Chairman of Committees, and Mr T. J. Young as Deputy Chairman.
Members tabled three notices of motion Ministers answered eight questions.
The House proceeded with the discussion of Estimates.
