Ambitious plans for Kwasind in N.S.W.

Kwasind’s connections have an ambitious spring programme in Xew South Wales mapped out for the Indian Order colt. But because of changed flight arrangements the Canterbury Guineas had to be struck off the list.

Kwasind was originally hooked to leave Auckland for Sydney on a special charter flight on September 1. That flight has been cancelled and; another arranged for a week' later. But the September 8 flight will go direct to Mel-| bourne and will arrive there! two days after the Canter-; bun Guineas is run. I It is hoped that anothen flight can be arranged at I short notice to take Kwasind and his Invercargill trainer. I

Ray Pankhurst. back to 1 •Sydney. While there the colt •will be quartered al the; : Warwick Farm stables of the! Iformer New Zealander.* /'Speed" Riley. I If all goes according to ■ ■plan Kwasind’s first Austra-’ Jian race will be the Three-year-old Club Handicap, a ■ $6500, 1600 m event for i colts, geldings and fillies at Randwick on September 13. That will be Kwasind’s I . lead-up race to the Sydney

'Turf Club's $35,000 Rosehill; Guineas (200 Cm on Septem-I ber 20. and the Guineas will! be followed by the $lO.OOOl ’Rosehill Stakes, a 1750 m! weight-for-age event a week, later. Kwasind’s main mission in* ! the Sydney area will be the| ■ $lOO,OOO A.J.C. Derby at! Randwick on October 4. He has also been entered for two $20,000 weight-for-age races 'at the A.J.C. spring Carnival —the 1600 m George Main Stakes, on October 8. and the! 2000 m Craven Plate three days later. Plans for Kwasind do not' go beyond that but if he, comes up to expectations he , will then be moved south to take in the spring racing in Melbourne. Because the tracks in the Sydney area are all righthanded Kwasind will be taken north to Auckland by Pank-i hurst this week and will get plenty of practice at thei right-handed way of going! while quartered there until he, is due to leave for Australia, I Last week Kwasind was 'entered for the John Grigg /Stakes, Lo be rim at Ashbur(jton on September 13. but this ; was done only for insurance ; in the event of any further hitches in present plans. MYSTERY HORSE When nominations for the ■ Canterbury-Westland Racing 1 Owners and Trainers’ Association’s matinee meeting at Ric- ' carton next Saturday closed last ■ weeK one horse in the open ; ( sprint had many mystified. . The horse concerned was Go, which, when handicaps were declared yesterday, was allotted , 57kg—only Ikg below the topweight. Grey Way. and equal with Surge Again. There was one good reason ; why few had ever heard of Go—- , he had only one race in New ,'Zealand and that was in a two- ; year-old event at Hastings in : September. 1971. At that time, ■ithe Mahbub Aly—Mama Mia colt ■ was prepared for his breeder, ,Mr Coloman Bolgar, by Peter Coleman, at Hastings. Soon after that race Go was - sent to Australia and although he failed to make an impression in three further starts in his

first season, he quickly made the grade when switched to the longer distances. Go won seven of his 21 races and was placed in 10 others at three. The shortest race he won was a 1550 m event at Kembla Grange and the longest was a 3200 m contest at Rosehill. Go was put aside as an early four-year-old after chipping a bone in a knee. He was operated on and the bone .was pinned but he has not raced since. Go entered Brydon Mills's Rici carton stable a week ago after being hacked around for some time by Mr Bolgar. Although the knee looks ugly, so far it has given him no further trouble. The big test will come when he competes under racing conditions on Saturday. If all goes I well, he will be a welcome addition to the ranks of stayers on the local scene.
