Centre for Islanders
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 17. A resource centre will be established in Auckland to assist Pacific Islanders who are settling in New Zealand and to assist New Zealanders gain a wider understanding of Pacific Island cultures. Opening the Auckland Metropolitan Polynesian speech contest, the Minister of Education (Mr Amos) said the Pacific Islanders resource centre would initially occupy four surplus classrooms at Bayfield School in Herne Bay. The centre would help Pacific Islanders overcome language, social, and other difficulties faced when settling in New Zealand and give them training to make a contribution in schools.
