' Wage justice' sought
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Post Office Association is determined to gain wage ; justice for its members in ; respect of increases due from I July i, said the president of the association (Mr J. R. Calder). The association’s conference. attended by delegates representing 35,000 Post Office workers throughout New Zealand, is being held in Wellington this week. “The conference demands I the application of the full) ■ wage movement of 6.3 per cent which has been proven ;to have taken place in the private sector, and seeks the ■ right to negotiate with the i Government on the application of the 2.25 per cent wage increase being applied generally in outside industry from July 1,” Mr Calder said. State employees generallyhad already made a large contribution to the national economy by foregoing s6sm back pay “morally due to them” last year. It was inconceivable, he said, that they should be expected to make an additional sacrifice this year Association members were determined to obtain their full entitlement on the basis of fair relativity with the increases already being paid to workers in the private sector .
