Auction of antiques
Furniture from the Tudor, Stuart. Georgian, Regency, and Victorian periods; paintings; copperware; silver; china and crystal were sold at an antique auction on Thursday. Buyers from Australia, and 'from Auckland to Invercarlgill, put up some “very ■spirited bidding.” The auction was arranged by George Anderson and Son, Ltd, and the auctioneers were Messrs W. Anderson and B. Watson. A Charles 11-style oak eight-piece dining suite sold for $2lOO, a Mahjong set in ivory for $l2O, and a set of four Jacobean chairs, heavily carved and with hide seats, for $9OO. An early Victorian chestnut roaster sold for $3B, and a collection of coins from the Denarii period for $lO5. A watercolour by Blythe Fletcher fetched $220. There were 348 lots and alimost everything was sold in ■ just over four hours.
