(N.Z. Pres. Association) WELLINGTON, August 8. The number of unemployed registered with the Department of Labour fell by 125 to 5129 in the two weeks to August 1, the I Minister of Labour (Mr Faulkner) said today. The Minister said the largest falls took place in Auckland, where the figure was 91, and in Rotorua, where it was 87. A total of 3015 people were being paid unemployment benefits on August 1 but vacancies recorded by the Department of Labour ■ rose by 135 to 2056 from June 18. There were 1682 vacancies for males including 914 for skilled workers.

Invercargill: males 413 (492), females 104 (112). The total unemployed for the southern region was given as 1416 compared with 1532 on July 18. The total unemployed for the North Island was 3713 compared with 3722 on July 18.
