Most of the applications are from people who have been working in other jobs since leaving secondaryi school. There are mere than 35 secondary schools in the Canterbury Education Board district and only one of these has sent in its list of applicants for the primary division. The closing date for applications is August 20, which is later than the closing date in 1974. The one-year graduate course for primary teachers has received 24 applications, compared with 40 last year. In 1974 more than 900 people applied for entry to primary teacher training in the Canterbury Education Board district of which 280 were accepted according to the Government quota. No quota has vet been set down for the 1976 intake.
