World Vision
Sir. —In my opinion World , Vision is politically motivated. In Vietnam it violated
the Pans Agreement in its efforts to help Thieu against the P.R.G. In Cambodia, World Vision collected intelligence for the United States, and also withheld aid if it suited the United States. The World Vision director told a Japanese priest: “Sometimes even if we are convinced about the necessity for certain projects which we planned and initiated, we get orders to stop those projects when they are felt to be contrary’ to United States policy.” A former State Department official, John Marks says: “I personally had experience with World Vision in Vietnam, and I can report that it is a Right-wing, evangelical group of people who would certainly cooperate with the C.i.A. if asked. Whether they have or not, I don’t know, but the C.I.A. has used missionaries in the past, and the practice almost certainly continues.” —Yours, etc., JOHN CHRISTIE.July 24, 1975.
