TV1 PLAN TO FILM ASCENT
Television One is negotiating with the Now Zealand Himalayan expedition. which aims to conquer Mount Jannu, to send a camera crew to film the climbers. Television one's head of information programmer <Mr Des Monaghan) said yesterday: “We are dead keen to do it. and it would make an excellent film The crew of four would be away for three months.’’ Negotiations were not completed but the film crew would consist of a director, cameraman, assistant cameraman and sound technician. Television one will probably spend about $40,000, but hopes to sell a television film internationally under a sharing arrangement with the expedition. The film team will tratei with the 12 climbers to the 25,294 ft peak in Nepal, twice as high as Mount Cook, and will work from a base camp on Jannu Glacier. V. Auckland firm, Daisy Films, was to have accompanied the expedition to film part of it for a series involving Sir Edmund Hillary Il r> to se 1 rhe series tn the United States. After the air accident in which I adj H taffy and their daughter were kihed Daisy Film- and Sir Edmund withdrew.
