Robalan Horse of Year again
The presentation of the Horse of the Year award, won for the second time by Robalan, was made at Addington Raceway yesterday. The picture shows, from left: Robalan’s three owners, Messrs D. D. Nyhan, who also trains the horse at Templeton, A. T. Devery, Invercargill, and P. N. Hope, Blenheim; the presidents of the three clubs, Messrs E. T. McDermott (Metropolitan Trotting), G. N. Hammett (New Brighton) and S. Andrews (Canterbury Park). The award is based on points accumulated by horses voted Horse of the Meeting by the press gal-
lery and members of the public at every meeting held at the raceway. The presentation was made on behalf of the three clubs which race at Addington, by Mr McDermott, who referred to some of Robalan’s outstanding performances on the track in the last season. Particularly outstanding had been his wins in the . New Zealand Cup and N.Z. Free-For-All. In the latter | he had rated 1:58.1 for 2000 m. His other top performances had included wins in the Clarendon Free-For-All ! in February and the Easter Cup Final. Mr McDermott also
complimented Robalan’s connections for retaining the horse in New Zealand and expressed regret at the setback which had prevented Robaian competing in the Inter-Dominion series at Auckland. A representative of the patrons who had voted for the Horse of the Meeting, Mr F. Naden, was also at the presentation.
