Graham says he is neutral

(N Z P A Reuter —Copyright)

STOCKHOLM, June 24

The American evangelist, Dr Billy Graham, whose critics say that he supported President Nixon's Vietnam policies, has declared that he is neutral on most political issues.

“I am against fascism, Nazism and communism,” Dr Graham said yesterday. “I do not defend capital!. i more than communism. I am for theocracy. I am not a politician or a United States ambassador. I am an ambassador of Christ.” Dr Graham is in Stockholm for a meeting with church leaders and journalists in preparation for his appearance before the Baptist World Congress in the Swedish capital next month. He said that he had difficulty in understanding those who compared the Vietnam war with Nazi war crimes. “The war is over, and we have admitted that we lost it,” he said. “I am not embarrassed because I do not believe i.i an aggressive United States imperialism. When the United States for a time was in sole possession of the atom bomb we could have ruled the world, but we preferred to help to build up the United Nations.”
