The choice of a suitable curtain-raiser to a major Rugby game can cause problems for unions. But the Canterbury body appears to have a fixture tailor-made for the occasion when the Tongan team plays at Lancaster Park oval on July 5.
On the same day St Bede's College and Christ’s College are due to play their annual game, at St Bede’s.
Changing the venue to Lancaster Park and elevating it to the status of curtain-raiser would be well received by spectators and the school players.
