Assurance on hospital
Westport and Buller health services will be maintained and expanded under the present Government, says the Minister of Health (Mr McGuigan). “The service will be maintained and where necessary improved,” he said in a statement last evening. “Any government would be negligent if it failed to make full use of the excellent health and hospital services available to the people in the Westport area, and of the skills of the staff who are employed in these facilities ”
Women of Westport who were concerned about the future of hospital services in the area would be better employed by reading the White Paper on Health and his own public assurances, said Mr McGuigan. “Nowhere in the White Paper, or in Government policy for improving health services, is there any sign that hospital services in Westport or anywhere else will be downgraded.” The Government intended to improve health services throughout the country and to provide much wider health coverage, said Mr McGuigan.
