Only six British players were among the last 16. Miss Frances Pere, of New’ Zealand, beat J. Fletcher (Australia), 4 and 3: J. Lock (Australia) be?t Mrs W. Douglas (N.Z.), 6 and 5; Mrs Shirley Bannan (N.Z.) beat C. Lugton (Britain), 4 and 2: Mrs C. Comhoy (Britain) beat Mrs Sue Bishop (N.Z.), 2 down; J. Lock beat Miss Pere, 2 down.
