Boote in big race
John Boote. of Christ church, will ride a four-cyl-inder Z 1 Kawasaki 900 in the testing, long-distance B.P. 500 production motorcycle race at Oran Park. Australia, tomorrow. Boote, who has been living in Australia for the last three months, has been using the Kawasaki for personal transport in recent weeks to ensure that he is fully familiar with the handling. “Everything is looking pretty good,” he said in a letter to the motor-cycle correspondent of “The Press.”
More than $BOOO in prize money is at stake, and Boote, who was runner-up in the Castrol six-hour classic in Australia two years ago, is among the favourites on recent form. If he wins, he will take home $2600. Prize money goes down to $lOO for tenth place. Next week-end Boote will try his hand at dirt-track racing. He has entered for an unusual six-hour flattrack dirt race. “It should be a lot of fun, but it is going to be very taxing, especially after the B.P. 500,” he said.
