(of the Year” contest at Wai[mate next month. j The winner of the contest [will be decided in Wellington on August 15. He will (win prizes worth more than !$BOOO, including a trip for | two to Singapore and Mal- . aysia. a tractor, and $5OO in • cash. ! The elimination contest for the Christchurch district was held in the Christchurch Town Hall last evening. Mr !Jarman scored the highest j points. ■ Both young men are farming with their fathers. Mr Jarman holds a degree in agricultural science and spent a period as a farm adviser with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries before returning to the home farm. Mr Clarkson returned to his father’s farm from school but has since spent a year on farms in Canada and the United Kingdom under an international farm youth exchange scheme. EARLIER WINNER The judges were Messrs G. N. Frazer. N. Q. Wright and R. L. Bennetts.' Mr Frazer was one of the early winners of the contest, being the “Young Farmer of the Year" in 1969. The contest was officiallv declared open by the High Commissioner of Singapore. Mr Chan Keng Howe.
