Profumo honoured for social work
LONDON. June 13. Mr John Profumo, a former (internment Minister wlv figured in one ol Britain's most sensational scandals, recency high honour from the Queen Indat alter 12 tears toiling in obscurity as a social worker.
The gazetting of Mr . Perfumo as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( C.8.E.) nas one of T.’ili awards in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Ranging deep into the fields of pulilie service and , arts, the awards embraced !: i entertainers like the conicj dian, Tommy Trinder. the C war-time heart-throb singer. Vera Lynn, and the actorplaywright. Peter Ustinov. j lop of lhe list were six life-iime peerages which in- ;• eluded a barony for Sir Wil- ; liam Barnetson. chairman of > United Newspapers and ; chairman of Reuters Two other publishing figures also were made barons. One was Sit Don Ryder, former chairman of the International Publishing Corporation (1.P.C.) and I now an industrial adviser to ; the Government.
