Stock cars team race

Visiting Wellington, stock-car drivers have been challenged to learns races with Canterbury drivers at Woodford Glen tomorrow afternoon.

The contest will consist of three eight-lap- races between two four-car teams, scoring on a 9. 6. 4,2, 1 basis. Reserves' will be nominated In case cars' are put out of action before - the contest ends. An all-in stock-car race will feature a novel start. The cars will be lined up on the grid but facing the wrong way. Every car 'must do a U-turn immediately, which should lead to some in- ' terestlng snarl-ups. Another new feature at the - meeting will be handicap stand- ■ Ing starts for one race in each I class.

Some of the best racing will be in the saloon classes. Joe Annan, who drove the 3ZM stockcar with some success, will be driving the 3ZM Monaro A grade saloon and should do well.

But Annan and the top regular drivers such as Roy Granger and Doug Smith will have some tough competition tomorrow. Brian Railton, of Invercargill, who raced his Falcon GTHO at some early meetings last season, will be back with a new more powerful motor and another Southlander, Peter Woods, of Gore, will be racing his very fast Mustang. John Hawke, of Dunedin, has entered a Mini. The feature saloon car race, oner 15 laps, will be open to both A and B grade car*.
