Obsolescence
Sir, —. The arguments put’ ■ forward by the chairman of an advertising agency, Mr) ,M. Buckland, in his address' ■to the Industrial Design. ■ Council are plausible propaganda which cannot be sub-! stantiated. That, any ini' telligent member of the pubillic — jet alone the Indus-i
J trial Design Council — [should take Mr Buckland’s ;! statements seriously is be;;yond belief. Like the Water- [ gate Plumbers, does he really believe that what he [ says is in the real interests of the people? They felt [ their criminal actions were justifiable, and .stoutly defended them. Like all advertising agencies Mr Buckland’s activities are orientated towards preaching planned obsolescence — indoctrinating a gullible public into believing that the latest is the best, whether it is ' what we should wear, the ! styling of an automobile or anything else for that mat- [ ter. His statements are to be [deplored. — Yours, etc., ANTI WASTE. May 29, 1975.
