No decision on coal

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 11. No decision had been made on whether coal from Mount Davy, near Grey-, mouth, would be exported to Japan, the Under-secretary for Trade and Industry (Mr B. P. MacDonell) said in Parliament today. He was answering a question from Mr T. F. Gill (Nat., East Coast Bays) on behalf of the Minister of Energy Resources (Mr Freer) on how the export of the coal could be justified in the light of a need for energy conservation.

Mr MacDonell said"* the Government was waiting for a report on the matter, which should be available by the end of the month.

In another question on Mount Davy, the Minister of Electricity (Mr Bailey) said special rates for carrying the coal from the West Coast to Lyttelton would be charged. These would be determined by costs and include an escalation clause.
