ENGLISH COUPLE LOSE BELONGINGS AFTER MIGRATING
A voting English couple who migrated to New Zealand early this year are worried about the whereabouts of all their personal effects.
Mr and Mrs J. M. Connolly. of Lindsay Street, are expecting a child in June but all the baby clothes, pram, nappies, bottles, blankets, sheets and quilts are goodness knows where.
I’he couple complained to “The Press” yesterday hoping that some publicity to their problem might be instrumental in alleviating it.
Before they left England and flew to New Zealand, the Connollys paid the Seven Seas transport
Company, ltd. £226 to cover the cost of shipping their effects — insured for about £lOOO — to New Zealand.
the couple produced the receipt for the shipping costs and the insurance
Tile position as at yesterday was that the insurance on the goods had expired, because it covered three months only, there was no guarantee of delivery and indeed no ship for the transport. I he couple have several times been in touch with the transport company in England and their Christchurch agents. Brambles International. I he Seven Seas company
gave the dock strike at 111 burv as one reason for tha failure of the goods to ha loaded. \nother reason was given as lack of space in a container. One spokesman tor Brambles in C hristchurch told "the Press” that the firm had no record of the goods. Another spokesman said that if rhe Connollys got in touch with a Mr Wilcox next Monday — after he returned from leave — thev might get some help
'leanwhile, the Connolly a are still unaware of where their belongings are or when they will get them
“The Press” cabled seven Seas yesterda. ask ing for a publishable explanation and assurances
