Pushchairs on buses
Sir, — I want to protest , about the Christchurch Transport Board's ridiculous ruling that, pushchairs are; not allowed on buses before ! 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. This: . morning I went to catch a • • bus with my two young: I children at 8.50 a.m. as I; : had an appointment in the I town centre at 9 a.m., only ;to be told they could not • take pushchairs until 9 a.m. ;I wouldn’t have minded ‘quite so much but for the [fact that there were only I two other people on the bus. : I’m sure the transport administration would jus- ! tify their case by saying they have to get workers to and from work with the minimum of delay. Don’t • they think that people who; look after children all day[ : are working and sometimes | have pressing time com-: 'mitments too? — Yours etc. | EVELYN SPENCE. ■ ! March 20, 1975. [Mr M. G. Taylor, general [manager of the Christchurch! •Transport Board, replies: I “The situation described by your correspondent has aljways been recognised by the 9 a.m. commencement being taken only as a guide, with [the first trips accepting pushchairs and prams on each [route being specified in a schedule which all operators are required to be familiar (with. Because the individual times range between 8.48 a.m. and 9.17 a.m. and because your correspondent does not give sufficient details to identify the route involved, it is not possible to say if the refusal to carry her pushchair was correct or not.”]
