DOING OWN REPAIRS
About four out of five young British motorists now do their own servicing and repairs, and many say they could no longer afford to Fun a car if they had to go to a garage for such work, a leading British oil company has reported. Nearly a quarter of all British motorists now do their own repairs, and safety and motoring organisations have expressed concern that the safety of cars has declined as a result, particularly when home mechanics have worked on braking systems. British garages say they have noticed a sharp drop in repair business, while there has been an equally sharp rise in the popularity of evening classes teaching car maintenance.
