Noble Charles might improve on his last-start second

The Westport owner-trainer, Keith Powell, looks to have a wonderful chance of adding yet another trophy to his collection when Noble Charles contests the Cheviot Cup at Rangiora Raceway tomorrow.
Heather Lane and Bonnie Charlie have been trophy winners for him in the past 12 months, but it has been Noble Charles which has been his main contributor. His latest win was in the Hororata Cup on March 8. Then he ran third to Kotare I.egend in a heat of the Easter Cup. Last Wednesday he raced right up to that form at Addington Raceway when he beat all but the highly-tal-ented four-year-old. Lunar Chance, at the end of a fastrun 2600 m. The class in this field does not look to be nearly as strong and this should help Noble Charles gain his second win for the season, and advance his assessment to CB.
The consistent Micron could offer most opposition to Noble Charles. Like that horse, he will start from 20m, a handicap unlikely to prove too much at Rangiora, where the pace is unlikely to be all that strong for the first 1600 m. Micron ran on quite well for fifth to Lunar Chance on Wednesday. Trrat run should help bring him to’ his peak for this race.
GOOD STAYER Avon Song, best-known as a stayer, made a fQLwaad showing when fifth in ttj&j New Zealand Standardbrea Breeders' Stakes on Weuriesday. If that effort has not sapped her reserves of energy she should again take
heating. Her record over 5200 m is a sound one. Interest will cent re in the Southland four-year-old. Hallmaster, which was promoted to first at Forbury Park on Monday. He has fashioned a fine record over all distances and is at ease on easy grass tracks. If conditions suit he will be one of the better chances. The “old firm” of Colin McLaughlin and Alan Harrison has not been very prominent since the days of Royal Ascot, Manawaru. Manama and others, but they have a fairly competent pacer in Nimble Yankee. The three-year-old half-brother to Royal Ascot will contest the Rangiora Handicap tomorrow and, after his good second to Bound to Be on March 8 at Hororata, he will be one of the popular fancies.; The scratchings of Cybad and Song Key eakened the field conly and possibly the for Nimble Yankee jvill be Hey Dryden &rid Lpch End. However, hold showings are also exacted from Flying Tufts. Hector Voss, Sunloafer. Gfadtiand and Bess Hanover.
